The Terry Opportunities for Undergraduate Research (TOUR) initiative is part of the Terry Strategic Plan, designed to:

  • Engage Terry undergraduate students in faculty research
  • Provide exposure to data and analytical skills
  • Encourage continued educational pathways

Time Commitment

100 hours total

Students can work across semesters within the same academic year and continue into the summer if enrolled, but cannot carry hours to the next academic year. TOUR hours may be renewed after students complete the initial 100 hours. Faculty must request additional hours and approval is based on available funding.

Student Guidelines

Eligibility

Only enrolled Terry students are eligible. Intended majors are not eligible.

Compensation and Credit

  • Pay: $12/hour up to 20 hours/week
  • Academic Credit: Students may earn credit for a 4960R course (check with your advisor).
  • Research Presentation: Students can participate in the CURO Symposium, with applications due in February and presentations held in April.

Submission Process

Complete the TOUR Interest Form if you wish to be considered for a TOUR position. Form submission does not guarantee acceptance. Your submission will remain active for the entire academic year.

Matching With a Faculty Member

Faculty will review submissions and contact you if you’re selected for a research position. For a better chance of matching, you may also proactively reach out to research faculty whose research interests are similar to yours or work with your academic advisor to find a match.

Faculty Guidelines

Eligibility

Faculty must request approval through the Office of the Associate Dean for Research. Preference is given to first-time faculty applicants; however, all submissions will be considered. Request hiring approval. You will be notified when your student is authorized to begin work.

TOUR positions are available for Terry College undergraduates only.

Funding

Positions are funded centrally by the Terry College, not departmental funds. Departments are responsible for reported time beyond the 100-hour limit.

Supervision Responsibilities

Faculty will:

  • Serve as the direct supervisor.
  • Approve the student’s weekly timecard in OneUSG Connect.
  • Follow the Biweekly Payroll Calendar for deadlines.
  • Provide timely notification to s.moon@uga.edu when a student is no longer working, and employment needs to be terminated.
