Master of Professional Accountancy Program Overview

Curriculum

The Master of Professional Accountancy program comprises 36 credit hours across 12 courses. We integrate data analytics throughout to enhance your technical abilities and give you a solid foundation in accounting principles.

Hands-on projects allow you to apply your skills to real problems, going beyond accounting principles to learn how accounting drives business decisions. For example, in our tax courses, you might complete tax return projects, including Excel Workpapers and similar deliverables. These experiences simulate the working environment in many accounting firms and corporate tax departments.

Similarly, in our audit courses, you’ll work with classmates to complete projects to practice important audit concepts and enhance your familiarity with analytical tools and software to simulate projects assigned to staff auditors as part of a financial statement audit.

Prerequisites

This MPAcc program welcomes students who have not completed upper-level accounting coursework. Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of two years of relevant, full-time work experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a subject other than accounting.
  • Completed Principles of Financial Accounting, Introduction to Financial Accounting, or the equivalent (Note: Applicants without this prerequisite can be provisionally admitted prior to completion of this course. UGA will offer ACCT 2101E the summer before you begin the MPAcc program.)

Already have an accounting degree but still want to earn a master’s? UGA’s Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program might be the right fit for you!
