Scandinavia, aka the Nordics, consist of Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. These countries are some of the most beautiful and breathtaking in the world, with capital cities known to be among the best places to live on the planet. The area consists of very welcoming people, lakes, fjord’s, archipelagos, mountains, top universities and of course highly innovative ecosystems.
Why go? (from a business and academic perspective): In the most recent years, Nordic countries rank in the top 10–12 worldwide in terms of innovation. The recent US News and World report Rankings have Sweden as the 10th best in terms of Innovation and #3 country overall best to live in worldwide.
While there are many other rankings, a recent report by UK firm KO2 had all 4 Nordic countries in the top 10 for “Best Places for Venture Capital Funding” with Sweden ranked #1. The OECD also shows that if you combined all Nordic countries, they would be #3 overall in total VC investment, with Sweden being top 10 by itself.
Why go? (from a travel destination perspective): As a travel destination, the Nordics offers a beautiful wilderness with glaciers in the north, forests, and lakes in the south. The cities are interesting, clean and attractive, and serve as a great destination for every kind of traveler! Scandinavia’s capitals offer history, a metropolitan atmosphere, combined with tradition and an open-minded welcome to all visitors.
Study Away to Austin, Texas
Join us for the Entrepreneurship Program’s 2025 Study Away to Austin, Texas.
Austin, TX Information
When:
Spring Break 2025 (March 1-7, 2025)
Who:
Open to UGA students of all majors who have an interest in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Why:
The UGA Entrepreneurship Program is a successful, collaborative, campus-wide initiative at UGA, open to students of all majors who desire to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and/or grow existing startups.
The Entrepreneurship Program study of Global Innovations Eco Systems [DOMESTIC] will be in Austin, TX during Spring Break 2025. This is a complement to the study abroad to Tel Aviv, Israel and study abroad to Scandinavia for 2025.
While there are many rankings of top innovation centers, Austin has become one of the top tech hubs in the USA and is known to be in the top 20 cities worldwide for Innovation and top 10 worldwide for top talent. In 2020–21 it was highlighted as the “the place to be” for tech founders and VC capital. Also in 2021 Austin had the highest rate of new tech workers in the country and has now been rated as the #1 tech town for two straight years.
Our FIELD plans include visiting top incubators and accelerators of which there are dozens. Plans also include visiting entrepreneurship centers including at UT-Austin. Further we would visit and hear from local Venture Capitalists, community and government leaders as well as some UGA alums. Next we spend time visiting a range of startups from early stage to Unicorn (private firms valued at $1 billion+). Our capstone project would be a “shark tank” style ideation workshop.
