Two University of Georgia professors were named to newly endowed chairs in the Terry College of Business.

Dean Ben Ayers announced the new faculty appointments, following their approval by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. Marketing professor John Hulland was appointed to the Nalley Distinguished Chair in Business, and management professor Laura Little was named to the Chick-fil-A Distinguished Professorship for Leadership Advancement.

“These two faculty members have been highly productive as scholars, academic leaders and journal editors, and they’ve had a tremendous impact on our students and programs through their teaching and service,” Ayers said. “We are grateful to our alumni, donors and corporate benefactors who established these generous endowments to benefit the students, programs and faculty of the Terry College.”

Hulland was named head of the college’s Department of Marketing in 2021. As a marketing scholar, he’s had nearly 30 articles published in premier journals, as well as another 30 in other outlets. Hulland was appointed editor-in-chief of the top-tier Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science in 2018 and was asked to continue as editor for an additional three-year term.

He’s also served in editorial roles for the Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Marketing and Journal of International Business Studies. Among his honors, Hulland was chosen for two Terry College faculty awards: the Teaching Excellence Award in 2016 and the Distinguished Research Award in 2020. He’s also received multiple teaching awards, as voted by students, from the Master of Marketing Research and MBA programs.

Hulland came to UGA in 2011 from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to that, he was a marketing professor at the University of Western Ontario. He received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1990.

The Nalley Distinguished Chair in Business is the second faculty chair to be endowed by Mr. and Mrs. C.V. Nalley III as a tribute to the entrepreneurial spirit of the Nalley family of Atlanta. Ugur Lel was appointed in 2016 to the Nalley Distinguished Chair in Finance.

Little, a member of the management faculty, has served as director of the Institute for Leadership Advancement since 2014. She oversees the highly sought values-based leadership program, its curriculum, instruction, service-learning projects and outreach.

The institute expanded its programs and reach after Chick-fil-A committed a record-breaking $10 million gift to ILA’s programs in 2020. It was the single largest donation for academic support in the college’s history.

In the field of organizational behavior, Little has published more than 20 articles related to the work-nonwork interface, emotional self-regulation and image management at work. She was the lead author of a study on how women navigate pregnancy in the workplace that received the Best Paper Award from the Academy of Management Journal in 2016.

In 2022, Little was appointed associate editor of the Academy of Management Journal. She also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Psychology and Personnel Psychology. She joined the Terry College faculty as an assistant professor in 2008, after earning her doctorate from Oklahoma State University.
