Four University of Georgia professors were appointed this summer to endowed chairs and professorships in the Terry College of Business.

Interim Dean Santanu Chatterjee announced the new faculty appointments in economics, management and risk management and insurance, following their approval by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents. All appointments take effect August 1.

“We are proud to appoint these accomplished scholars to endowed faculty positions at the Terry College of Business,” Chatterjee said. “We’re deeply grateful to our alumni and supporters whose generosity makes this possible. These endowments enable us to attract and retain exceptional faculty — gifted educators and renowned scholars who advance our mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service.”

David McCarthy, associate professor in the C. Herman Terry Risk Management and Insurance Program, has been appointed the McCart Family Distinguished Professor of Risk Management and Insurance. McCarthy joined the Terry College in 2016 and will be the first faculty member to hold the McCart Family Distinguished Professorship. McCarthy studies retirement system design and operation, inter-generational transfers and risk sharing, mortality risks, annuities and financial sector regulation. In addition to his academic work, he served for five years as a policy advisor to the National Treasury of South Africa.

Brantly Callaway, associate professor in the John Munro Godfrey, Sr. Department of Economics, has been appointed the P. George Benson Professor. Since joining the Terry College in 2020, Callaway has emerged as a leading scholar in econometrics. His innovative work in model development has earned him significant recognition, including the 2023 Aigner Award for the best applied paper in the Journal of Econometrics for his contributions to difference-in-differences modeling.

Daniel Gamache, associate professor of management, was named Terry Dean’s Advisory Council Distinguished Professor. Gamache, who joined the Terry College faculty in 2015, studies decision-making in the C-suite, the psychological traits of CEOs, and how compensation considerations, as well as personal and company reputation, affect CEO behavior.

Fadel Matta, professor of management, was named the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Chair of Business Administration. Matta came to UGA in 2016 and studies how employees’ emotions and perceptions of fairness affect business productivity and the relationships between leaders and their direct reports. Matta is one of the most prolific researchers in the Terry College of Business. In 2023, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) honored him with the Distinguished Early Career Contribution Award for the breadth and impact of his work.
