About Terry OIT

Envisioned Future:

To be recognized by the Terry Community for exemplifying customer service and reliability.

Purpose:

Our purpose is to support the Terry College Community in their mission of teaching, research, service, and learning.

We achieve this purpose through leadership in the effective application of technology. We include within the Terry College Community anyone who interacts with Terry physically or virtually.

Operational Objectives:

  • Provide exceptional customer service
    • The right service at the right time with the right attitude
  • Enhance the productivity of the Terry Community
    • Provide solutions and services that make our customers' jobs better, faster or easier.
  • Attain operational excellence
    • Achieve and maintain a high standard of reliability, cost effectiveness, and efficiency in systems, services, and people

Strategic Objectives:

  • Develop our employees (technical and interpersonal skills)
  • Simplify our infrastructure
  • Utilize central services where appropriate and cost effective
  • Utilize EITS/CITP as our hiring strategy
  • Enhance responsiveness by reducing variability and automating common tasks
  • Assist in development of quality central services and processes

Current Status of Department

  • Jan 1, 2004 reorganization has successfully put all units of OIT on track to meet performance expectations.
  • Attrition has been significant this year.
  • Budget cuts (State and Student Tech Fee) have reduced operating funds by 20% for FY05. This will significantly impact the addition of new or improved services and will require the downsizing of computers labs by 1/3 to sustain operations.

5 Year Plan

  • Minimize infrastructure costs (could mean more $$$)
  • Become partners with faculty in delivering the Terry Mission (Research, Instruction, & Service)
Partnership: A relationship between individuals or groups that is characterized by mutual cooperation and responsibility for the achievement of a specified goal.
  • Develop and integrate applications that facilitate efficient workflow and knowledge management to reduce administrative burden and enhance the core missions of the College.

Success Factors

  • UGA and College senior administrative leadership
  • Open dialog on Terry College 's strategic objectives, priorities, and concerns
  • A successful and cooperative central IT organization
  • Growth in collaboration across the University
  • Openness of OIT to new and different ideas and/or directions
