Benjamin C. Whipple, a professor in the J.M. Tull School of Accounting, was named the Denny Beresford Professor of Accounting. The professorship is named for Dennis Beresford, who chaired the Financial Accounting Standards Board from 1987-1997 and later served as the Ernst & Young Executive Professor of Accounting at the Tull School. His many honors included induction into the Accounting Hall of Fame.
The state’s Board of Regents approved his appointment in November.
“The appointment of the professorship to Ben Whipple reflects the incredible depth of talent within our faculty,” said Interim Dean Santanu Chatterjee. “His dedication to pushing the boundaries of business research while providing world-class mentorship to our students ensures that the Terry College remains at the forefront of business education.”
Whipple, who joined the university in 2013, is renowned for his ability to guide students through the complexities of intermediate financial accounting. His instructional philosophy combines high rigor with dedicated support, earning him the 2022 Terry College of Business Teaching Excellence Award. His research focuses on how managers and analysts forecast and communicate financial performance.
Whipple also serves on the editorial boards of Contemporary Accounting Research and the Journal of Financial Reporting.
