UGA’s 40 Under 40 list for 2022 includes 12 Terry alumni

The 2022 honorees of the University of Georgia’s 40 Under 40 include 12 graduates who earned a degree from the Terry College of Business.

The list includes 10 alumni who received undergraduate degrees in business and two who earned an MBA at Terry.

Here are the 12 alumni with Terry ties:

  • Nathan Bruno (BBA ’09) of Spring, Texas, is executive vice president for sales and commercial excellence at Mattress Firm. He majored in marketing at Terry.
  • Lael Chappell (BBA ’06) of New York City is director of insurance distribution at Coalition. He majored in finance at Terry.
  • Dr. Jake Goodman (BSA ’15, MBA ’20) of Miami, Fla., serves as the psychiatry resident doctor at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Veteran Affairs Hospital in Miami. He is also a mental health advocate and educator on social media.
  • Kristen Henderson (BBA ’11) of Atlanta serves as vice president at Goldman Sachs. She majored in finance at Terry.
  • Shayla Hill (BBA ’08) of Tucker serves as senior design program manager at MongoDB. She majored in marketing at Terry.
  • Leo Chris Kasuya (BBA ’14) of Marina Del Ray, Calif., serves as director of strategy and new ventures for Irresistible Foods Group. He majored in marketing at Terry.
  • Min Y. Lee (BBA ’06) of Charlottesville, Va., serves as COO of the University of Virginia Medical Center. She majored in management at Terry College.
  • Brandon Martin (BBA ’14) of Atlanta is founder and CEO of Close Ties Leadership Program, which connects middle schoolers to mentors. He majored in marketing at Terry.
  • Juan Mencias (BBA ’15) of Atlanta serves as CFO for Georgia Diamond Corp./Ascot Diamonds. He majored in finance at Terry.
  • Andrew Rasmussen (BBA’05, MED ’09) of Atlanta owns Rasmussen Wealth Management. He majored in finance at Terry.
  • Johnelle Simpson (AB ’16, BBA ’16) of Athens is an attorney with Fortson, Bentley and Griffin. He majored in risk management and insurance at Terry.
  • Grant Thomas (AB ’15, MBA ’20) of Chamblee serves as director of the Governor’s Office of Health Strategy and Coordination.

Nominations for 40 Under 40 were open from February to April, and more than 600 nominations were received. Honorees must have attended UGA and uphold the Pillars of the Arch, which are wisdom, justice and moderation. Additional criteria are available on the UGA Alumni website.

“We are excited to unveil this year’s class of 40 Under 40 and celebrate their many accomplishments in Athens this September,” said Meredith Gurley Johnson, executive director of alumni relations for UGA. “These young alumni exemplify leadership in their communities and industries across the country. I continue to be amazed by their accomplishments.”

The honorees will be recognized during the 11th annual 40 Under 40 Awards Luncheon on Sept. 9 in the Tate Student Center.
