Terry teams win big at MBA case competitions

Two teams of Terry students have earned big successes at recent MBA-level case competitions.

A team of four Terry MBA students and one undergraduate advanced to the final CFA Global Challenge Case Competition, where they competed against groups from Canada, Italy and the Philippines. To get there, the Terry team first captured first place the regional competition in Atlanta, then dominated the Americas round (semi-finals) in Chicago. The UGA group was one of 106 teams worldwide that competed in the National Challenge in Chicago, and one of only 20 teams to advance to the semi-final round.

UGA won the Americas round and came in a very close second in the global competition. The team included Thomas Saunders (second year MBA), Arjun Goel (second year MBA), Sarah Caldwell Greenwood (second year MBA), Matthew Greene (first year MBA), Elijah Yarborough (BBA Finance) and coaches Patrick Coyne (CFO, Rapid Ocean Response Corp) and Jack He (a Terry Finance professor).

The three MBA students who competed at the NAIOP Case Competition

A second UGA team of three MBA students won the annual NAIOP Challenge Case Competition (organized by the Atlanta chapter of the real estate association). In front of a crowd of 150, the UGA group defeated teams from Emory and Georgia Tech to receive a $7,500 cash award. Terry’s team included Thomas Saunders (second year MBA), John Wiley (second year MBA) and Benjamin Heflin (second year MBA) along with coaches Spencer Coan (senior vice presidents for investments at SK Commercial), Jay O’Meara (senior vice president at CBRE), Matt Gregory (senior analyst at MDH Partners) and Rich Martin (a Terry Real Estate professor).
