UGA, local community mourn Carolyn Dehring

Carolyn Dehring, associate professor of real estate in the Department of Insurance, Legal Studies and Real Estate, passed away March 11 following an extended illness. She was 47.

A native of Milwaukee, she was born in February 1968. She graduated from Valparaiso University with a B.S. in accounting, received an MBA and M.A. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and earned her PhD in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

She came to Terry in 2003, where she also served as a graduate coordinator for the Real Estate Program and member of the Science Advisory Committee for Coweeta LTER. She authored and co-authored numerous scholarly articles in journals such as Land Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, and the Journal of Real Estate, Finance, and Economics.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher; children, Noel and Brianna; numerous brothers and sisters, nephews and nieces, and cousins across the country as well as an incredible number of loving and supportive friends.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 14 at Living Hope Church.
