The MIS department welcomes two new faculty members: Astrid Lipp and Nikhil Srinivasan.
Lipp is teaching Data Management courses. She received her Bachelor’s degree at Bryn Mawr College and Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Connecticut in German language and literature. During the 1979-80 academic year, she was a Temporary Assistant Professor of German at the University of Georgia.
Subsequently, she served as a translator and interpreter for a German/American company in Hapeville, where her duties included working with computers. When the company was sold, she returned to academia and received her PhD in MIS in 1993 from the University of Georgia. Her dissertation assessed the effectiveness of a group decision support system for eliciting knowledge about corporate real estate disposition to build an expert system. She has been a faculty member at Clemson University and Georgia State University.
Srinivasan is teaching courses on Project Management, Object Oriented programming and Introduction to Information Systems. He is a graduate of the master’s program at Syracuse University and the doctoral program at Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
In recent years, he has concentrated on understanding the role of socio-technical networks in social computing platforms. The focus of his research has been to evaluate an organization’s presence on social media platforms and develop metrics to quantify effectiveness. He also studies the potential of social media to serve as the ecosystem for Big Data and the implications of such big data sources in research and practice.
