Vandenberg named interim head of Management

Robert J. Vandenberg​, the Robert O. Arnold Professor of Business, has been named interim Head of the Management Department at Terry. He succeeds Allen Amason, who left to become dean of his alma mater, the College of Business Administration at Georgia Southern University.

Vandenberg, a Terry faculty member since 1993, is one of the premier methodologists in his field, having won both a Distinguished Career Award and a Best Publication Award from the Academy of Management among other honors.

An often-cited researcher, Vandenberg’s expertise has been sought worldwide. His published work on measurement invariance, co-authored with UGA psychology professor Charles Lance, won the Robert McDonald Advancement of Organizational Research Methodology Award in 2005. It is also considered by many of his colleagues to be a landmark study.

Vandenberg has served as editor-in-chief of Organizational Research Methods, and currently sits on the board of the Journal of Management. He has also held positions on the editorial boards of the British Journal of Management, the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Journal of Applied Psychology.

Amason has been a Terry faculty member since 1996. He earned a Ph.D. in strategic management and international business from the University of South Carolina, and a BBA from Georgia Southern University.

His research has focused on strategic decision making and top management team processes. He is the author of Strategic Management: From Theory to Practice.
