Terry community mourns Betty Whitten

Betty Whitten, a professor emerita of management science at Terry, passed away June 17.

A renowned management science scholar and trailblazer for women in academia, Whitten began her career at UGA in 1967, joined Terry in 1972 and retired in 1998. She most recently resided in Charlotte, N.C.

Whitten was one of the first two Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professors, UGA’s highest honor for instruction, when the award was established in 1981. She received the honor a second time in 1990. Whitten also served as associate vice president for academic affairs at UGA.

A memorial service will be held in early July at Athens First United Methodist Church.
