On a recent Friday afternoon, a rare bit of evolution arose on the UGA campus. Students became teachers, performers turned into lecturers, and academics transformed into CEOs.
This change was the result of TEDxUGA, which brought together students, alumni and faculty—including more than a few from Terry—to share “ideas worth spreading.” TED stands for “Technology, Entertainment, Design” but since its founding in 1984, the project’s scope has broadened.
The event was organized around the theme “healthy,” and included talks from entrepreneurial professors, visual artists, successful alumni and current students.
Walter Crawford, a Terry senior majoring in finance, spoke about his involvement in starting Mind Blowers, a nonprofit organization that teaches problem-solving skills to children at Boys and Girls Clubs.

Mark Anthony Thomas graduated from Terry in 2001. Now he serves as director and publisher of City Limits, New York City’s leading civic investigative journalism organization.
He spoke about how he came to run City Limits after leaving UGA.
