Spring MIS Advisory Board Meeting

The Spring MIS Advisory Board meeting was held on March 20 in Athens. Following a lunch at DePalma’s Italian Cafe, more than 60 Board members and faculty attended the meeting at the new Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries. The MIS Banquet at the Holiday Inn that evening was attended by more than 200 board members, faculty and students.

During the afternoon break, there was a fun and interesting tour of the university’s special collections. If you have not seen the Special Collections Building, it is well worth a tour on your next trip to Athens. It is much more than dusty books and documents.

During the Board meeting, we received an update on the Terry College of Business from Dean Sumichrast, including the plans for the new Business Learning Center; discussed and approved the new two-tiered corporate membership levels (Black and Red); reviewed the business process management course offerings; and had a panel of recent graduates discuss how well the MIS program did and did not prepare them for the workplace.

The MIS Banquet included a social hour, dinner, awards to Jeff Bell (Outstanding MIS Alumni) and Ron Swift (Distinguished Service Award), the awarding of 43 scholarships, and a great keynote talk by Cara Turano of Computer Technology Solutions.
