Hugh James Watson

Hugh J. Watson is a Professor of Management Information Systems at the Terry College of Business, University of Georgia. A trailblazer in the fields of decision support systems, executive information systems, data warehousing, business intelligence, and analytics, he has authored 25 books—including Business Analytics: Managing, Building, and Using Analytical Systems (Prospect Press, 2025). He has published over 200 articles in leading journals such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Management Science, and the Academy of Management Journal.

Dr. Watson helped establish the foundations of decision support systems in the 1970s and was instrumental in the advancement of executive information systems in the 1980s. Over the past 30 years, his work has focused on data warehousing and analytics. He has consulted for global organizations such as the World Bank, IBM, Intel, Glaxo, and Conoco, and has led hundreds of executive development programs.

He is a Fellow of both the Association for Information Systems and The Data Warehousing Institute, and served for 25 years as Senior Editor of the Business Intelligence Journal. Dr. Watson has held editorial board positions with numerous leading journals, including Journal of Management Information Systems and Communications of the Association for Information Systems.
