Alice Kinman

Biography
Dr. Kinman specializes in teaching writing and communication for business. She also directs the Writing Center for UGA Economics students. In the Terry College, she has taught a senior thesis writing course, introduced a service-learning section of the course, and edited the UGA Journal of Economics.
Dr. Kinman completed her PhD in English from UGA in 1997. Since then she has taught English and American literature courses at UGA and University of West Georgia. In 1999 she was awarded a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Upon returning in 2000, she has served in a variety of roles, including UGA English Instructor (2000-2006) and UGA Franklin College Undergraduate Advisor (2006-2010).
Dr. Kinman has also played many roles in the Athens-Clarke Country government, including two terms on the A-CC Commission (2004-2012) and ten years on the ACC Planning Commission (2014-2024). Her focus has been on transportation and affordable housing. In 2022 she co-chaired the Mayor’s Task Force on Affordable Housing. That committee’s recommendations, including allowing more accessory-dwelling units into single-family neighborhoods, are now being implemented or are under consideration.
In her spare time Dr. Kinman enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her two daughters, one dog, and one cat.
