You’ll have lots of opportunities to form strong connections outside the classroom. Join a student organization, attend Terry events, serve as a Terry Ambassador or take part in unique programs such as the Institute for Leadership Advancement (ILA) or the Terry Women’s Initiative.
We offer a wide range of student organizations, including the Professional Entertainment and Sports Association and Women in Technology. One of our more unique offerings is Terry’s Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF). SMIF is a premier opportunity for finance majors interested in investments to immerse in financial markets and gain valuable practical experience managing a $1 million portfolio investment.
Terry Ambassadors lead by example and engage with students and alumni to build a community within the college, increase understanding of available opportunities, and further the Terry legacy. Each semester eight of our highest achievers are selected as Deer Run Fellows. Those chosen for the program attend leadership classes with the dean and participate in a weekend leadership retreat with former Coca-Cola CEO Doug Ivester and other business leaders at Deer Run, Ivester’s 25,000-acre plantation in Leary, Georgia.
The Institute for Leadership Advancement develops values-based leaders that serve their communities and organizations. ILA instills leadership capabilities — layered on top of the student’s academic major — that promote self-development, effective communication, teamwork, innovation, and adaptability in a changing, global environment. The Terry Leadership Speaker Series presented by ILA, brings well‑known leaders from a variety of organizations to Athens. In these student‑oriented forums, leaders are asked to discuss their leadership styles and experiences.
