The Risk Management and Insurance Careers Day allows you to connect with nearly 60 companies in the industry. This is the time for you to show who you are, what you have learned and what your goals are. To help, the professors of the RMI Program want to give students the following words of encouragement. In addition, please look to these other resources to prepare for the Careers Day.
“Sometimes the best way to stand out is to ask really good questions, as opposed to having all the answers.” — Dr. Carson
"Be prepared! Do not simply walk up to a company without knowing anything about them." — Dr. Eckles
“Showing that you've done research on a company is a great way to make yourself memorable. Read the About Us and Media/Press sections on the company's website and check their social media accounts. If they're publicly traded, look at their most recent 10-K. Create a cheat sheet with five bullet points on each firm you want to talk to, and review it before you walk up to them. It shows recruiters you're willing to work to learn about their company and provides some instant conversation starters!” — Dr. Ragin
“I cannot quite stress how important it is to research potential employers prior to Careers Day. You are competing with hundreds of other students for internships/jobs. If you start a conversation with a recruiter by asking what their company does, you’ve likely already eliminated yourself from consideration.” — Professor Brown
