Funding Your Online MBA Degree – Your Questions Answered

What is the cost of course materials for the OMBA program?

Students will be notified before each module about the course materials they will need for each class, as well as how to obtain specific materials (e.g., textbooks, cases, simulation access, etc.). Students are responsible for purchasing materials and can expect to spend between $2,000-$2,500 throughout the program.

What is the cost of the optional Domestic or International Residency?

The Online MBA degree program offers optional in-person international and/or domestic residencies as elective courses during the second year of the program. While the program tuition excludes the costs associated with the trips, students can request additional student loan funding to cover the cost of the trips entirely. We recommend that students budget $1,500-$2,500 for a domestic residency or $3,500-$5,000 for an international residency.

Does UGA offer tuition payment plans?

Yes. The University of Georgia Tuition Payment Plan is a two-installment plan that allows students to defer up to 50% of their current term’s tuition and fees or their account balance after aid, whichever is less. A commitment deposit of $1,000 is required for enrollment in the payment plan.

The deferred balance is calculated after all actual and expected financial aid is applied to the student account. Financial aid is defined as any anticipated or actual aid, third-party and scholarship payments, waivers, or any other credits on your account. The deferred amounts are automatically drafted on predetermined installment dates.

Students can enroll in the payment plan through the Bill Payment Suite. Due date installments for the payment plan during the Fall semester are typically in mid-September and mid-October. For updated information regarding deadlines for applying for the payment plan and payment plan due dates, view the Bursar & Treasury Services quick links page and navigate to the Payments button.

*Online MBA students who choose to enroll in UGA’s tuition payment plan are required to register for their courses in August.

What are my payment options for the Online MBA degree?

UGA provides a full array of payment options, including e-checks, credit and debit card payments and mail payments.

If your company contributes to the cost of your degree, the University of Georgia makes it easy. UGA can bill your company directly for your tuition and fees or provide tuition receipts and grade letters for company reimbursement.

What payment options are available to military personnel?

As a veteran, you may have earned education benefits that you can use toward funding your education. In addition to federal financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), service members may be eligible for additional veterans’ education benefits or relief programs designed to assist with offsetting or coverage of tuition. Visit the Financial Aid for Military Service Members and Student Veterans page to learn more about programs you may qualify for, such as tuition assistance programs and GI Bills.

If you need assistance with determining eligibility, enrollment, or funding, contact the Student Veterans Resource Center.

Is the cost of an online MBA worth the investment?

In short, yes, your investment in an online graduate business education is worth it.

Graduates of the Online MBA program at UGA will receive a diploma that looks no different than diplomas awarded to our on-campus MBA graduates, meaning the value of your degree doesn’t change simply because of the online program structure.

MBA holders see major growth in their careers — both in positional promotions and salary increases. Your OMBA degree will propel your career forward and connect you with exciting new opportunities in your industry.

Additionally, according to the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the average cost of an online MBA is $52,264, making the tuition rates at UGA comparable to the national average, merging a top-ranked curriculum with affordability in the MBA marketplace. There are also many ways that you can fund the investment into your education, such as scholarships or financial aid.

Does UGA offer scholarships for the Online MBA program?

The OMBA program offers a limited number of scholarships. All candidates who submit an application are considered for scholarship opportunities — no additional paperwork is required. Submit a complete application by April 1 to ensure your chances of effectively competing for a scholarship.

The number of awards, available scholarship funds, and selection criteria vary from year to year. Awards for candidates are based on merit (academic achievements, including undergraduate GPA and/or test scores) or for non-profit or government sector employment.

OMBA students can also find additional scholarship opportunities through Scholarship Universe — a scholarship matching system that maximizes opportunities for students.

How can I apply for federal student aid as an online student?

You can apply for federal student aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

During the FAFSA application process, you will need to access the following documentation:

  • UGA’s Federal School code: 001598
  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your driver’s license number (if you have one)
  • Federal tax information (documents or returns, including W-2, for both you and your spouse if you are married, and for your parents, if you are a dependent student)
  • Records of any untaxed income
  • Information about your cash, savings, and checking account balances, investments, real estate, or business assets

You can view detailed information about FAFSA application materials on the FAFSA website, or see the Office of Student Financial Aid FAFSA page for a step-by-step guide to completing your FAFSA application.

What are the deadlines for applying for federal financial aid?

Beginning October 1, 2022, students can complete the 2023-24 FAFSA to apply for the 2023-24 Award Year, which includes Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024. UGA’s FAFSA deadline for the Fall 2023 semester is July 1, 2023.
