Ted McMullan (MBA ’93)
Ted McMullan is a passionate entrepreneur, active community leader, dedicated family man, and proud alumnus of UGA. He is president of Covington Investments LLC, a real estate investment, development, and acquisition firm he founded in 1997.
Since his youth, Ted has been an entrepreneur. At the age of 11, he had his first business cards printed to promote myriad activities, and at age 18 he became the youngest licensed real estate salesperson in Georgia. His passion for enterprise has not wavered since.
At the same time, Ted’s compassion for others has only grown stronger. His entire career has centered on owning and operating senior living communities, proving that strong business growth can go hand-in-hand with mission-driven service to others.
Born in Atlanta to a close-knit family, Ted was raised in Druid Hills just steps away from Emory University. His parents modeled solid values — hard work, active church and civic involvement, and giving back to others — and instilled those ideals in Ted and his three siblings at an early age. Ted holds many fond memories of his childhood in the idyllic Druid Hills neighborhood where he attended public school.
Venturing to Washington, D.C., Ted earned his AB degree in government at Georgetown University in 1991. He returned home to Georgia, graduating from Terry’s Full-Time MBA Program in 1993 with a concentration in entrepreneurship and new venture formation. At UGA, Ted thrived on participating in business plan competitions, in which his MBA team enjoyed considerable success.
Ted chaired the Terry College Alumni Board and remains an emeritus member of the board and active supporter. Over the years, Ted has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including Georgetown University, the Georgetown Club of Georgia, Hal Brady Ministries, Young Harris College, the University of Georgia Foundation, and Pace Academy.
In 2006, Ted joined Young Presidents’ Organization and now chairs YPO’s Southern 7 Chapter, the largest in the world. The affiliation with YPO has been life changing for Ted and his family. He also is an active member and usher at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
Ted met his wife Catherine Cushman McMullan (formerly of New York City) in Washington, D.C. Catherine is a devoted parent, accomplished tennis player, and adept home chef. Four school-aged children (three sons and a daughter) keep the couple busy with sports activities year-round. In his leisure time, Ted enjoys music, travel, sport shooting, reading, and hosting memorable private and civic events. His appreciation for good food meshes well with Catherine’s well-honed culinary skills!
Ted is deeply grateful for his association with UGA’s Terry College of Business and the abiding relationships fostered through Terry over many years. He is honored to be a part of the Terry College family. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!
