(International
Economics I)
MW 11-12:15 AM
207
The
area of international macroeconomics is one of the most active in
macroeconomics. This course surveys some
of the advances and recent developments in the field. The course will focus both on “real” (i.e.,
non-monetary) and monetary open-economy macro models. There will be four main sources of required
readings:
Gene
Grossman and Kenneth Rogoff (eds.), Handbook of International Economics,
Volume 3. Elsevier Science B.V.,
1995.
Nelson
Mark, International Macroeconomics and Finance: Theory and Econometric
Methods. Blackwell Publishers, 2001.
Maurice
Obstfeld and Kenneth Rogoff, Foundations of International Macroeconomics. The MIT Press, 1996.
S.J. Turnovsky, International Macroeconomic Dynamics. The MIT Press, 1997.
In addition, there will be a set of assigned readings for
each topic we will discuss. See the course outline and reading
list for
more information.
Your
final grade will be determined by the following factors: (i) assignments, (ii) two midterm examinations, and (iii) a
final examination OR term paper. Each
component above will carry a weight of 25 percent. The details and requirements for each of the
above categories will be discussed in class.
