Dr. Patrick G. (Pat) McKeown is a retired professor of MIS who splits his
time between Fort Myers Beach, FL
and Athens, GA, with his wife, Carolyn, a retired
Infection Control Coordinator at Advantage Behavioral Health Services. He has
been a longtime resident (30 years) of Athens,
GA. where he was a Professor and
the Head of the Department of
Management Information Systems in the Terry
College of Business at the University of
Georgia. Raised in Ocala,
Florida, he attended Georgia Tech
where he received a Bachelors of Aerospace Engineering and a Masters of
Industrial Management. Pat earned his Ph.D. at the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill. Originally trained in Operations Research, his current
research interests include revenue management and methods of teaching the
introductory course in MIS. Prior to retirement, he taught courses in
introduction to programming using Visual Basic, rapid application development
using ASP.NET, electronic commerce strategy, and revenue management. He and
Robert G. Cross, Executive in Residence in the Terry
College have recently taught courses
in revenue management the University
of Passau in May of 2005 and in the
Evening MBA Program at the Gwinnett
Center in the Fall of
2005. Upon his retirement in 2003, he was a Teaching Fellow at Massey University
in Auckland,
NZ.
Pat has published close to 50 articles in such journals as Operations
Research, Management Science, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, and
Computers and Operations Research. He has also published more than 30
books including Learning to Program with Visual Basic, 2ed. (2002)
and Learning to Program with VB .NET (2004)
both published by Wiley. He also has published Information Technology and
the Networked Economy, 2ed. (Course Technology, 2003) and is a co-author on
a forthcoming book, Introduction to
Information Systems, with Mark Huber and Craig Piercy to be
published by John Wiley & Sons in the late fall of 2006.
He received a Fulbright Fellowship in 1998 to teach in Portugal. He
has also taught at the University of Helsinki, the University
of Braga in Portugal,
and the School of Business Leadership at the University of South Africa.
He is a member of the Association of Information Systems (AIS) and a Fellow of
the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA).
