ECON 8040 Macroeconomic Theory I Fall 2009
505 Brooks Hall
Macroeconomics deals with big issues; namely, how fast an economy's resources grow and how fully the economy uses these resources. Whereas microeconomics focuses on the allocation or distribution of a fixed amount of resources, macroeconomics focuses primarily on the scale of production, or the volume of resources available and employed in production.
This course is a graduate-level introduction to the basic theory used to explore and understand the overall activity of an economy. Its objectives are to develop a fundamental understanding of the macro economy through the use of formal economic models, to introduce the analytical tools necessary to build and analyze such models, and to provide a foundation for more advanced study in the field.
