Grading Notes:

Grading Scale: Letter grades will be assigned according to the weighted average of points accumulated on exams, assignments, projects, and those that are Instructor determined. Grades will be assigned based on your performance alone. You will NOT be competing with other class members for a fixed number of A’s, B’S, C’s, etc. Your points earned in the group work will be adjusted based on your individual contribution to it. A 100 point scale is used. Grading is on a traditional scale with 93% and up being an A; 90% through 92.999999% an A-; 87% through 89.999999% a B+; 83% through 86.999999% a B, 80% through 82.999999% a B-; 77% through 79.999999% a C+; 73% through 76.999999% a C, 70% through 72.999999% a C-; 67% through 69.999999% a D+; 63% through 66.999999% a D, 60% through 62.999999% a D-; and less than 60% an F. These ranges may scale down and widen in establishing grades. Never will they move up.

Grading Method: The goal of all written and presentation assignments, and essays on exams is to show me that you understand and have mastered the material. I expect to see a certain level of understanding, say a "typical" level of understanding. Thus, it will be relatively easy (but there is never a guarantee) to earn a "B" on material turned in as long as some reasonable level of thought and completeness is evident. Higher grades will depend upon evidence of more thoughtful consideration of the material, more insightful answers, and more completeness in the response. Also, please discuss your own experiences.

Passing the Course: Relying entirely on your group's performance does not necessarily lead to a passing grade. Group members evaluate each other and I use these ratings to determine individual scores on the group work. Nonperformers will earn little or no points. Contribute to the group work.

Instructor Determined Points may consist of any performance indicators I deem appropriate. These might be classroom participation, attendance, and / or applied to any of the other categories. These points are determined solely at my discretion.

Exams: You may not miss 2 exams worth of testing and pass the course.

Earning Grades: You earn your grade. Performance counts and is rewarded. Attendance counts as well.

Grading Complications: I want all grading in the course to be fair, accurate, and objective. I have put a lot of thought into how to do this. My policy on contesting grades and/or scores received on any assignment, project, paper, exam, etc., is that I will handle them promptly. All questions about grades that potentially involve a change in points must be submitted, in writing (not email or telephone). The write-up must include details about the requested change, your name and ID number, and information about the assignment or the hard copy. You must also sign the request.

Grade Reporting: To facilitate accurate and timely grade reporting, and to make them available to class members, anywhere/anytime, grades will only be posted electronically on the Course eLC Web Site (The Grading Area is secure). The weights reported by eLC are meaningless.
