Software

A great deal of the learning in ECON 4750 is accomplished through empirical projects that require the use of statistical software.  The software of choice for this class is Stata. Because of our institutional arrangement with Stata, you can purchase a license to use the 'small' version for one year for only $48.   'Small' means that Stata has limited the size of the dataset you can analyze, but those limits will not affect your work in 4750.  The software is not degraded in terms of functionality.  If you anticipate utilizing the skills acquired in this class in other coursework or research, you might consider purchasing a license to Stata/IC for $95.  Purchase the software online directly from the company.

Listserv

A listserv has been established to facilitate communication outside of class. I will post all announcements pertaining to the class on the list.  You can post to the list by sending email to econ4750-l@listserv.uga.edu.  All posts will be archived, so any given post can be retrieved, even if you have deleted it from your inbox.

Grades

Depending upon whether you are registered for ECON 4750 or 6750, your grade will be computed as follows:

Percentage Weights
Assignment 4750 6750
homework 25 25
midterm exams 25 25
final exam 25 25
project 25 25

ProjectStudents registered for 4750 will be assigned to a team and the project will be a team activity.  Students registered for 6750 will carry out their projects individually and their project requirements will be more demanding.

Class Attendance. Regular class attendance is expected. You should be aware of UGA academic regulations that allow the professor to withdraw students with excessive absences.

Exam Dates & Policies

There will be 2 midterm exams, the first on Fri, Oct 3 and the second on Fri, Nov 14.  The final exam will be held on Wed, Dec 17 at 8:00am

There will be no make-up midterm exams, period. If you are absent from the midterm exam, the weight of that exam will be applied to your final. Failure to take the final exam at the scheduled time will result in a grade of zero. There are 2 and only 2 exceptions to this rule:  (1) if the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs verifies that you have another exam scheduled for the same time or three exams scheduled on the same day, or (2) if you have a documented family emergency or personal illness.  In the case of (2), you must resolve the situation as promptly as possible.

If you know now that you will not be able to take the final exam at the scheduled time, then you should drop this course.

Academic Honesty. UGA's Academic Honesty Policy will be strictly enforced.
