Required Reading

Lazear, E. and M. Gibbs, Personnel Economics for Managers 2e, Wiley.

The second edition is not yet ready for publication, but Mike Gibbs has graciously given his permission to use the draft chapters of the text.  You can purchase copies at Bel-Jean.

In addition to the text, you will assigned cases and articles from the popular press.  You can download tassigned readings from the restricted course materials page.

You are responsible for the content in all reading assignments.

Listserv

A listserv has been established to facilitate communication outside of class. I will post all announcements pertaining to the class on the list.  You can post to the list by sending email to econ4000-l@listserv.uga.edu.  All posts will be archived, so any given post can be retrieved, even if you have deleted it from your inbox.

Grades

Performance will be evaluated on the basis of class participation, teamwork, 2 midterm exams, and a final exam, weighted as follows:

Grade Components Weights
class participation .10
teamwork .20
2 midterm exams .40
final exam .30

You will be ranked relative to other students in the class according to your overall performance and grades assigned based on your class rank. I will use the plus/minus system to make distinctions within grade categories.

Class Attendance

Regular class attendance is expected. UGA academic regulations authorize a professor to withdraw students with excessive absences and I will exercise that authority.  Also, it will be very difficult to earn credit for class participation if you are not there.

Exam Dates & Policies

The final exam is scheduled for Fri, May 2 at 3:30p

There will be no make-up midterm exams, period. If you are absent from a midterm exam, the weight of that exam will be applied to your final. Failure to take the final exam at the scheduled time will result in a grade of zero. There are 2 and only 2 exceptions to this rule:  (1) if the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs verifies that you have another exam scheduled for the same time or three exams scheduled on the same day, or (2) if you have a documented family emergency or personal illness.  In the case of (2), you must resolve the situation as promptly as possible.

If you know now that you will not be able to take the final exam at the scheduled time, then you should drop this course.

Academic Honesty. UGA's Academic Honesty Policy will be strictly enforced. I strongly urge you to become familiar with the section on prohibited conduct
