NATURE OF WORK
This is sub-professional instructional work at a trainee level in the field of elementary education of retarded children.
Work involves the supervision of student activities including participation in group learning games and assisting a professional staff leader with individual or small group instruction. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a professional instructor.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Assists in the preparation of the classroom for instructional activities by arranging and/or preparing necessary instructional materials.
Supervises student activities.
Plays learning games with children.
Assists in individual and small group instruction.
Participates in frequent conferences concerning child learning experiences.
May perform general housekeeping duties.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Some knowledge of the behavioral aspects of retarded children.
Ability to learn assigned tasks rapidly and to adhere to prescribed routines and procedures.
Skill in dealing with children on a personal basis.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of the eighth grade of high school and some experience related to this class of work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
