NATURE OF WORK

This is supervisory and clerical work assisting in the maintenance of a physical property inventory system for all institution property and equipment.

Work involves responsibility for processing new items of property and equipment in the inventory system which includes identifying and recording new capital items, and for supervision and participating in taking periodic inventories of existing property and equipment. Duties involve preparing reports of inventories, searching for lost items, and assuring that items are properly identified. Assignments are received with general instructions from the Inventory Supervisor. Work is performed according to established procedures and is reviewed primarily through observation of results obtained.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Supervises and participates in taking physical inventories of institution property and equipment and prepares reports of results; assures that all inventory items are properly identified; conducts searches for lost items.

Investigates new purchases and additions and determines whether an item is of a capital nature; assures that capital items are identified and recorded.

Plans and supervises the work of several Inventory Clerks; conducts special inventories and prepares reports; provides general assistance to Inventory Supervisor as directed.

Performs related work as required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Some knowledge of property and equipment control.

Some knowledge of a wide range of property and equipment capital items.

Some knowledge of the methods of identifying inventory property and equipment.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to plan and supervise the work of several Inventory Clerks.

Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons contacted during the course of work.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a standard high school; some experience in inventory work or in work providing a familiarity with the many kinds of institution capital items; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the above desired knowledge, abilities and skills.
