 NATURE OF WORK

Employees in this classification may be responsible for assigned phases of warehouse or storeroom work but are capable of performing all functions of the position. Work differs from that of the Stores Clerk I class in that this position requires advanced knowledge of the maintenance of records or accounts pertaining to items under their control or the size and complexity of the facility to which the individual is assigned. Work requires the exercise of judgment and use of acquired knowledge and skill in the performance of the functions required. General supervision is received from a superior who reviews work procedures, inventories, and accounts.

 ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

 Receives, stores, and issues equipment, materials, supplies, merchandise, or tools.

Compiles stock records for periodic, special, or perpetual inventory of stock.

Counts, sorts, or weighs incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisitions or invoices.

Stores articles in bins, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of material.

In absence of supervisor may prepare requisitions, orders, or other papers for purchasing or requisitioning new or additional stock items.

Verifies accuracy of requisitions and shipping orders by comparing stock numbers, authorized substitutes, or other listed information with catalogs, manuals, parts lists, or similar references.

Reviews files to determine which items are not being used and recommends disposal of excess stock.

May supervise subordinate employees.

Performs related work as required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of warehousing and inventory procedures including receiving, recording, storing, and issuing goods and materials.

Knowledge of record keeping and some accounting procedures.

Ability to maintain proper records.

Ability to prepare requisitions, orders, or other documentation necessary for the acquisition of new or additional stock items.

Ability to supervise the work of subordinate employees.

 DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from standard high school; warehouse, inventory, and record keeping experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
