STORES CLERK I

00505

NATURE OF WORK

This is manual and clerical work in a warehouse or storeroom.

Work involves performance of general warehouse or storeroom activities including receiving, storing, issuing, delivering, and shipping of widely diversified supplies. Duties also include maintaining routine records, performing custodial tasks, re-arranging for storage space, participation in taking inventory, wrapping and packaging items, and requisitioning standard supply items. The degree of supervision received varies among positions in this class; where work is performed in a small stockroom, there is less immediate supervision than in a larger supply center consisting of several employees serving a wider variety of supplies and materials. Work involves frequent contact with patrons of the storeroom and with personnel throughout the university in making deliveries. Work emphasis is on the prompt and efficient discharge of assigned tasks, and is reviewed either by direct supervision or by observation of results.
