NATURE OF WORK
Employees in this classification have considerable responsibility within the Budget Department assisting in supervising and maintaining a budgetary control system for the university.
An employee allocated to this class works closely with university departmental budget representatives (Office Managers, Business Managers, departmental heads) to verify and assure that the departments remain within their budgeted funds. The employee will have available, at all times, a balance of any unused funds for their respective departments. Overall supervision is received from a superior who checks work for adherence to established practices and schedules.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Reviews, assists with, and approves budget amendments for proper approval and overall accuracy; explains budget procedures, rules, and policies.
Updates and balances transactions daily to the budget data base computer files.
Checks personnel reports for accuracy, proper signatures, position titles, etc. before entering the payroll system; verifies with Expenditure Control.
Assists with the preparation and distribution of information for the new budget.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports; prepares other fiscal reports as requested.
Posts changes and credits and reconciles with university status reports.
Checks purchase and check requests and travel documents for accuracy and availability of funds before entering into the system.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable working knowledge of budgetary procedures and policies.
Considerable experience in posting credits and charges.
Considerable knowledge of budget amendment system.
Ability to meet processing deadlines.
General knowledge of university codes; computer terminals.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a high school supplemented by two years of business experience or education; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
