NATURE OF WORK

This technical and clerical work in the administration of the non-academic personnel program.

Work involves responsibility for assisting in the administration of the various elements of the personnel system for the non-academic service, requiring the independent application of a working knowledge of personnel and related rules and regulations. Work is performed in accordance with policies, rules, and regulations and with considerable independence of action on routine matters. Technical advice is normally readily available on difficult problems or on matters deviating from established policies. Supervision may be exercised over one or several subordinates.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Maintains records of employees in non-academic service; prepares a periodic report on attendance, vacancies, and related matters; provides authorized information from records.

Processes garnishment papers; consults with employees on this matter; processes workers compensation claims; prepares related reports.

Prepares a variety of special reports on such subjects as work performance, job analysis, job evaluations, and injuries.

Receives and reviews applications for employment; may interview and recommend personnel for employment; interprets personnel policies and rules to employees.

Performs related work as required.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable experience in varied clerical work including some experience in personnel administration; graduation from a standard high school, preferably supplemented by special course work in one or several of the basic elements of personnel administration.

Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures.

Working knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of personnel administration and employee relations.

Ability to maintain complex records, to assemble and organize data, and to prepare reports from such records.

Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and applicants.

 

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a standard high school and completion of college level courses in personnel administration, supplemented by experience in general office work including some supervisory experience in personnel work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
