NATURE OF WORK

Prepares a variety of information for data processing coding, performs complex coding, enters coded information directly into a computer system through a computer terminal, and independently resolves problems and corrects errors from review of computer print-outs. Duties are performed under general supervision and require considerable knowledge, application, and interpretation of the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the specialized area to which assigned.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Reviews information from a specific operation (such as accounting or personnel) in order to prepare for proper coding; works with officials to ensure accuracy and completeness of forms submitted for computer entry.

Performs complex coding of information and enters information directly into a computer system by use of a terminal.

Reviews computer print-outs for errors of problems; works with staff members in order to resolve problems or to correct errors.

May supervise lower level clerical personnel.

Makes inquiries by use of the terminal for staff or for informational purposes.

Performs related work as required.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, or procedures of the unit to which assigned, of terminal entry coding procedures, and of the procedures for information entry and retrieval by use of a computer terminal.

Skill in coding information into proper form for entry into a computer system.

Ability to handle complex assignments to completion, resolving problems, and correcting errors.

Ability to work with various personnel at all levels.

 

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school graduate with courses in typing supplemented by a course in alpha and numeric keypunch operation.

Some experience in a position which is related to the operation of the unit to which assigned and involved working with computer terminals, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
