NATURE OF WORK

This is skilled mechanical work in the operation of large complex bindery equipment in a university shop operation.

Employees are responsible for the operation and maintenance of large folders or other complex bindery equipment and perform complex and difficult assignments through use of the bindery equipment. Work may involve training other employees in the operation of various types of bindery equipment. This class of work differs from Bindery Equipment Operator I in both the skill level of machine operation and by the kinds and number of machines operated. Work is performed under general supervision of the Bindery Supervisor for adherence to quality standards and compliance with instructions.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Sets up, adjusts, and operates a large folder and cutting machine or similar complex bindery equipment.

Performs a variety of complex folding operations and other bindery operations through use of the equipment.

Maintains the equipment by performing preventive maintenance and repair work on various types of bindery equipment.

Trains employees in the operations of various types of bindery equipment.

Performs related work as required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of and skill in the operation, adjustment, and maintenance of bindery equipment.

Thorough knowledge of basic printing functions in relation to the bindery operations.

Ability to keep routine clerical records.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to train others in the operation and maintenance of equipment.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a standard high school supplemented with considerable experience in the operation of a variety of bindery machines; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
