NATURE OF WORK

This is unskilled manual work in a bindery of a university printing department.

Employees perform routine hand work consisting of gathering, collating, folding, and various other bindery operations. Work may also involve assisting in operating simple bindery equipment to accomplish assigned duties. Work is performed under close supervision for compliance with instructions.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Performs hand work in gathering, collating, and otherwise assembling printed material into the desired form using bindery techniques to complete finished work according to customer requests.

Assists in machine operations of small folders, perfect binders, gang stitchers, paper cutters, and other similar bindery equipment.

Packages, mails, and distributes finished bound materials.

Performs manual work in maintaining supplies and inventory for the bindery operation.

Cleans and maintains the bindery equipment and room.

Performs related work as required.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform under conditions requiring physical strain.

Ability to use hand and finger dexterity necessary to perform required manual tasks over extended periods of time.

Ability to lift, bend, stand, under moderate physical strain.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of the eighth grade; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
