NATURE OF WORK

This is highly skilled printing work in the operation of a complex electronic photo typesetting system and other related printing equipment at the university.

An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for the quality preparation of folders, brochures, booklets, and other related printing jobs. Work involves the operation of electronic photo typesetting equipment including: input keyboard machines, editing-proofing equipment, typesetting and processing machines, and other related equipment. This class of work differs from the PHOTO TYPESETTER I in that employees are responsible for marking up the jobs to be produced, including selecting the correct program and format, type face and size, slug size, line length, indentions, scale pictures, illustrations and drawings to fit proposed layouts, and other information needed to complete jobs. Employees in this class may supervise the work of a PHOTO TYPESETTER I. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general direction of a technical superior.
