NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced and skilled work in the operation of offset equipment and in related printing tasks.
An employee allocated to this class of work is responsible for the operation of the more sophisticated small offset presses and equipment. Work may also include the operation of related duplicating equipment and smaller presses. Work involves responsibility for the operation, adjustment, and maintenance of small offset presses. Work assignments are received in terms of materials to be produced. Work is performed under general supervision of a technical superior and is reviewed for clarity and neatness.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Operates, cleans, and maintains small offset presses with plate size up to 11 x 17 inches in reproducing letters, pamphlets, reports, bulletins, and related printed materials.
Prepares electrostatic masters; operates reduction master maker and ITEK camera.
Assists duplication equipment operators in minor problems; trains new personnel; operates other presses.
Plans jobs with customer; maintains adequate stock; orders supplies.
Operates binding equipment such as power stapler, collator, folders, punches, and plastic ring binder.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small offset presses and duplication equipment.
Considerable knowledge of a wide variety of uses of small offset machinery and the various types of plates.
Considerable knowledge of the papers, inks, and related materials utilized in small offset press operators.
Ability to plan and schedule work.
Ability to deal with the public.
Ability to operate a wide variety of small offset presses and related duplication equipment effectively and efficiently.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff and fellow employees.
Skill in the operation of a wide variety of small offset presses and related equipment.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school and thorough experience in the operation of a wide variety of small offset presses; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
