NATURE OF WORK
This is sub-professional work performed in the Archives Department of the Library.
Work involves responsibility for assisting in the processing and cataloging of archival records and dissemination of the policy directives regarding the university's record program. The work also includes maintaining the security of the Library's archival records and providing a reference service to the department's patrons. The work is performed under the supervision of the institutional Archivist and is reviewed through observation of performance and results.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Assists in the receipt, identification, cleaning, arranging, boxing, labeling, and shelving of the libraries permanent and transitory archival records.
Creates indices and catalogs of archival record holdings for research access.
Assists library patrons with the use of archival materials.
Provides an archival record reference service to departments on campus.
Disseminates new state, regent or university policy directives regarding the university's archival record keeping program.
Prepares typed transcription from Oral History tapes and archival records copies.
Destroys transitory records and maintains a records destruction log.
Prepares transmittal sheets for receipt of records from departments.
Prepares charge-out forms for temporary release of records.
Maintains security of the Libraries archival records.
Maintains necessary supply levels.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of basic library procedures, methods, and materials in relation to acquisition, cataloging, and shelving of records.
Ability to learn the campus records flow system.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons and departmental records managers.
Ability to use modern office equipment including the typewriter, microfilm reader, photocopying equipment, and paper shredder.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school plus some college level course work, supplemented by library experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
