NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced clerical work requiring the exercise of individual judgement in the administration of relatively complex office duties which require considerable public interaction.
This position is responsible for providing a wide variety of interactive clerical functions and providing assistance for faculty, staff, students, and the general public, and requires the application of high level skills and experience. Duties are performed within established departmental guidelines, but employees are expected to use their own experience and judgement in developing independent techniques and procedures for problem resolution and improving operational effectiveness.
Coordination functions may be exercised over clerical employees or student assistants. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Greets and assists individuals calling in person or by telephone; refers callers to proper persons; maintains appointment calendars.
Answers inquires regarding routine policies, rules, and regulations; provides information on procedural matters; may disseminate information regarding the operational functions of a program or unit.
Maintains necessary files and statistics and may assist faculty, staff, and students in the acquisition of appropriate information
Receives and processes information requests regarding departmental records which may entail file and/or computer search.
Enters and retrieves data on CRT.
Assists in student and conference registration and scheduling; may utilize CRT to process adjustment requests, maintain, and verify student records.
Receives money from students and others, writes receipts for payments, prepares daily cash receipts for all monies received, and prepares bank deposits; prepares simple financial reports.
Edits a variety of forms, records, and reports with the responsibility for handling problems and correcting errors.
Coordinates typing and clerical tasks with subordinates and student assistants by determining priorities and checking work for accuracy and completeness; maintains records of all work performed.
Operates typewriters, CRT's, copy machines, and other office machines as necessary to insure maximum efficiency.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of office practices, procedures, equipment, and standard clerical techniques.
Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
Considerable skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with officials, employees, students, and associates and effectively conveying information.
Knowledge of accounting and record keeping methods and techniques.
Ability to maintain administrative, fiscal, and academic records and to prepare reports and answer questions from such records and to prepare reports and answer questions from such records.
Ability to interact well with general public.
Skill in the operation of typewriter and/or CRT.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school, including course work in record keeping, office procedures, general business, and typing, supplemented by considerable office experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
