NATURE OF WORK
This is clerical work requiring limited analysis and use of individual judgement.
Employees perform standardized office duties which involve well-defined procedures and techniques. Routine assignments are performed independently using some degree of initiative and judgment based on knowledge gained from experience. Work on non-routine assignments is subject to close scrutiny and is reviewed by a superior.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Gathers information for reports or records; reviews reports, records, forms, and other documents for accuracy and completeness; checks mathematical computations, tabulations, and statistical data for accuracy.
Makes simple postings to various departmental, fiscal or other records according to standard procedures.
Sorts, codes, and files unclassified material by simple headings or sub-headings. May prepare simple index and cross reference aids.
Receives and screens visitors, mail, and telephone calls, answering general questions or requests and referring others to appropriate staff members. Attends public as a sales person; operates and balances cash register; places merchandise on shelves and in counters; straightens up work area.
Operates office machines such as duplication machines, copying machines, address-o-graph machines, and so on.
May occasionally operate a typewriter or a keypunch machine as required in the performance of clerical duties under conditions not requiring a significant degree of skill or speed.
Performs related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Some knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.
Some knowledge of office equipment and operation of a typewriter and a keypunch machine.
Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations and tabulations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a standard high school and some experience in clerical work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
