Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I apply if my overall GPA is below a certain level?
-
Terry College requires a 2.6 overall GPA to be considered for admission. No exceptions will be made to this requirement.
- Can I apply and be accepted to a Terry major if I have not finished all of my course work in Areas I-VI?
-
Yes, students can apply who are currently enrolled in course work that will complete Areas I-VI. Admission will be contingent on satisfactory completion of these courses.
Note: An exception may be made for applicants to the International Business major due to the foreign language requirement in this major. Contact your academic advisor for more information.
- Can I apply if I am taking courses to fulfill Areas I–VI at another institution?
-
Remember that students must be enrolled at the University of Georgia at the time they apply to the Terry College. Students who also are taking core courses at another institution must provide official documentation (e.g., official transcript or enrollment verification letter) to the Terry College Undergraduate Program Office that shows they are enrolled in these courses. Admission to the Terry College is conditional until all transfer course work is evaluated and posted by the UGA Office of Admissions.
- Does PE credit count toward my 60 earned hours required in order to be eligible to apply?
-
Yes, even though PE does not satisfy any of the areas of the core curriculum, it is included in “earned hours” and will satisfy the hour eligibility requirement.
- I was accepted to Terry contingent on the completion of courses in which I am currently enrolled. What happens if I do not complete these courses?
-
Applications for students who withdraw from course work that is required to complete either Areas I-VI or 60 credit hours will not be considered by the Terry College. Admission to a Terry College major is contingent upon the completion of all courses required to meet application eligibility. Admission of students who do not complete the eligibility requirements may be rescinded.
- Will applications be accepted and reviewed during the summer semester?
-
Applications are accepted fall and spring semesters only.
- What does the ETS® Proficiency Profile cover?
-
The ETS® Proficiency Profile measures college-level reading, critical thinking, writing, and mathematics in the context of material from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. More information »
- Will I be permitted to retake the selection tests?
-
Students may take the ETS® Proficiency Profile and Accounting Test twice within each application period, but no more than two times total. Students’ highest score will be used.
- Where will my test results be sent?
-
All test results will be sent directly to the Undergraduate Program Office in the Terry College of Business for inclusion in students’ application files.
- What is the Statement of Purpose?
-
The Statement of Purpose is a brief essay (300-400 words) in which the applicant describes his/her interest in the major and his/her future goals. A separate Statement of Purpose is required for each major to which an application is being made and resubmitted for each application period.
- What does Terry look at when evaluating my application for admission?
-
Please refer to the selection criteria as seen in the Admissions Guide. The faculty of each major department determines the weight assigned to each of the selection criteria.
- How many foreign language classes do I need to apply for the International Business co-major?
-
You should have at least two grades in a foreign language at the time you apply. The level of the course would be a secondary consideration to the grades themselves.
- If I repeat a course, which grade will be considered on my application?
-
Grades for all selection criteria courses taken are reported to the faculty committee of each major department. Each committee determines the weight assigned to each of the selection criteria.
- I received AP credit for courses that are listed as selection criteria for the major I want. How will these courses affect my application?
-
Faculty in the academic departments of the Terry College of Business recognize that Advanced Placement credit represents college-level credit earned while the student is still enrolled in high school, i.e., it indicates advanced achievement by the student at the time the credit was earned. The admission committee for each major determines the weight assigned to each of the selection criteria, including AP credit.
- When and how are applicants notified if they have been admitted to their major?
-
Applicants will receive an email from the Terry College Undergraduate Program Office notifying them of their admission to a major in the Terry College. The goal of the Terry College is to notify all students in mid-October for students who apply Fall semester, and in mid-March for students who apply Spring semester. Your official admission notification and other relevant information will be sent to your UGA email address.
- Where should I go to be advised if I am admitted to a Terry College major?
-
Students admitted to a Terry major will be advised and cleared to register by a Terry major advisor during an orientation for new students. The date and time will be announced in the notification of admission.
- Once I am admitted to a major, can I change to another major?
-
Since selection of students to each major is dependent on the quality of the applicant pool, demand, and availability of space, students cannot be guaranteed the ability to change majors. After admission to a Terry College major, students must apply to change their major. You may not apply to change your major until you have completed one semester in the major to which you are admitted.
**Please note that students who change from one major to another in the Terry College are not guaranteed the ability to complete their new major in one semester due to prerequisite requirements of major courses and the availability of classes offered each semester.
- Can I double major in the Terry College?
-
Initially students are admitted to one major. Students who want to add a second Terry College major must apply to add it. Since the number of students admitted to each major is dependent on the quality of the applicant pool, demand, and availability of space, admission to a second major cannot be guaranteed.
- What happens if I am not accepted to any of the BBA majors?
-
Even before students apply to the Terry College, they should consider a fallback major outside of Terry College, in case they are not admitted. The UGA Career Center is available to help students choose alternative majors that may provide a similar career path. Students can call 706-542-3375 to schedule an appointment with a career counselor, or meet with a career counselor without an appointment at any of the following times and places:
- Coke Lounge in Sanford Hall, Mondays-Thursdays, 1:30 to 3:30 pm
- New College, Tuesdays, 1:00 to 4:00 pm
- Career Center, Clark Howell Hall, Monday- Friday, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
For additional help in determining an alternative major, try the following websites:
- Can I re-apply if I’m not admitted to a Terry major?
-
There is no limit on the number of times a student may apply. However, the Terry College strongly recommends that students who are not admitted to Terry contact a career counselor, and then their academic advisor, to discuss alternative majors at UGA. Students who choose to reapply must complete the application online. It is the student’s decision whether to retake the ETS® Proficiency Profile and/or the Accounting test.
- Where should I go to be advised, if I am not admitted to a Terry College major?
-
Students who are not admitted to a Terry College major should make an appointment in their fallback major department for the most current advice and information about that major. Pre-business majors in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences may contact their advisor for information about where to make their departmental advising appointment. They may be advised once more in New College, but must have an alternative major in order to be advised in the future, since their core requirements for a Terry College major are completed. Intended and unspecified majors in the Terry College should make an appointment online. All other students should contact their current school or college.
- What effect will grades of I, ER, or NR have on my eligibility to apply or be accepted to a Terry major?
-
Students with grades of I, ER, or NR in courses that are required to complete 60 credit hours or Areas I–VI of the Core Curriculum are eligible to apply for admission to a Terry major. However, if the I, ER, or NR grades are not removed before the beginning of the semester students are admitted to Terry, acceptance into the major may be rescinded.
