Welcome to Academic Advising

Academic Advising Mission Statement

The mission of academic advising is to help students to formulate and reach their own educational goals, while also making sure that students understand the objectives and requirements of the Bachelor of Business degree in the Terry College of Business.

Student Responsibilities

The student is responsible for the completion of his or her degree program. Read more about this policy at www.bulletin.uga.edu/bulletin/acad/Responsibility.html

The student is also responsible for being advised and registering in a timely manner.

Advisor’s Role

The advisor facilitates students’ understanding of USG (Regents), UGA, and Terry requirements. Advisors do not tell students what classes to take, what courses are best, or how to get out of requirements. He or she will listen carefully to questions and concerns, offer suggestions according to students’ interests, and most of all, make sure that all of the options are fully understood so that students can make intelligent choices on their own. Read more about this policy at bulletin.uga.edu/bulletin/acad/Advising.html

A key principle of advising is that each student is responsible for his or her own decisions. Advisors exist because students can often use help in making those decisions. They can also help to keep students focused on what an education means and on the learning opportunities that sometimes get lost in the requirements.
