Take advantage of all of the resources that Terry has to offer whether it’s the resume critiquing and mock interviews through the Terry Boot Camp or networking at a Terry Alumni Panel.

I’m constantly searching for opportunities to enhance my leadership abilities. During my freshmen year, I applied for an internship with CDW-G as an Account Executive Intern; the job experience matched what I was looking for in an internship. After three intense interviews, I was chosen for the position.

I currently meet with the different IT Managers and Directors here on campus and try to get to know these people on a personal level while building professional relationships and providing them CDW-G information and collateral.

I was then selected by management to participate in the CDW-G Higher Education Classroom Advisory Board. This board is comprised of 10 individuals with only two interns, including myself. We are currently discussing topics such as sales training, partnership development and marketing efforts in order to further develop CDW-G’s classroom technology plan. I was also selected by my management to speak at an all-intern panel at the Campus Technology Summer 2011 Conference in Boston this past July. Out of all of the CDW-G interns around the nation, there were only four interns selected to speak at this event.

I also interned full-time this summer for Turner Network Sales, the sales and marketing arm for Turner Broadcasting, Inc. In addition to gaining valuable real world and hands on experience within the cable and multimedia industry, the two biggest highlights of my summer internship experience with Turner were having lunch with the Chief Financial Officer of Turner Broadcasting, Inc. and also landing an informational interview with the Vice Chair of Turner Broadcasting, Inc. I was selected for this internship through the T. Howard Foundation. This program helps minorities locate internships within the entertainment and multimedia industry. I was one of 55 interns across the nation that was selected amongst over 1500 applicants. I am extremely passionate about pursuing a career within the entertainment industry, ideally as a talent agent.

My advice to my fellow Terry students:

  1. Take advantage of all of the resources that Terry has to offer whether it’s the resume critiquing and mock interviews through the Terry Boot Camp or networking at a Terry Alumni Panel.
  2. Read the emails that are sent from the Terry professionals, especially the weekly student newsletters! They are the most informative tool we have-you never know what opportunities you might come across.
  3. Last but not least, persevere and don’t limit yourself! Who says you have to wait until your junior to intern? You should start seeking internships and doing research on companies that interests you as early as your freshman year. And just because you’re able to land one interview and not the actual job or internship doesn’t mean you should give up. Continue to build relationships with professionals, schedule as many on campus interviews with employers and keep utilizing all of the resources available at Terry and the Career Center until you land that job offer or internship placement.
