About the Real Estate Program

Terry's Real Estate Program, which began in the early 1960's, is recognized by publications such as U.S. News and World Report as one of the finest in the nation. No other real estate program in the Southeast is ranked as high as Terry's. In fact, only Wharton ranked higher in the most recent U.S. News rankings.

Real estate currently has more than 150 majors in the undergraduate program, and the demand for the major is so strong that it is not uncommon for the number of applicants to be three times higher than the number of slots available. Classes in the MBA curriculum range from 40-60 students, with a strong core of those students entering the program just to study real estate. Students are attracted to real estate because it allows them to focus their energy and aptitude on something applied and specific that has a direct link to careers in the workplace.

The program has a strong reputation for the quality of the educational experience that we provide to our students. Employers often comment on the strong analytical skills Terry students exhibit, as well as their ability to think outside the box. A rigorous academic curriculum, coupled with the hands-on experience students gain through Terry's internship program, gives our graduates a definite edge in this increasingly competitive job market. In a typical year, we place an average of 70 students in internships at firms across the country. This number has grown from a mere 17 as recently as the 1997-98 academic year.

In addition to internships, Terry also contributes to the career placement of its real estate graduates through a resume book that is mailed to more than 450 firms on a semi-annual basis. That exposure has enabled numerous firms to recruit our students. Each year, employers such as Prudential Mortgage Capital, Deloitte, Bank of America, RaceTrac Petroleum, and E & Y, to name just a few, visit the UGA campus specifically to interview and hire real estate students. In a typical year, more than 60 full-time positions in the marketplace are advertised through the Real Estate Listserv, in addition to the vast number advertised through the University's Career Center.
