Episode: Terry Third Thursday: Tim Chapman
An Entrepreneur's Spirit: Don't Always Listen to What 'They' Say"
Tim Chapman is Chairman and CEO of Stadion Money Management, formerly known as PMFM, Inc. Tim began his investment career in 1981, obtaining his NASD securities licenses while still a student at the University of Georgia. He later received a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and spent the first 10 years of his career helping individual clients achieve their financial goals.
In 1991, he teamed with Don Beasley to create PMFM, Inc., a registered investment advisory firm dedicated to managing money using a tactical asset allocation approach. The original philosophy, "Winning By Not Losing", is still the centerpiece of the technology-driven investment model that has led to Stadion's investment management success. Several years later Tim created Stadion Retirement, formerly known as 401k Toolbox, to bring Stadion's investment management to 401(k) plan participants nationwide. Over 100,000 401(k) investors now benefit from the professional managed account services offered by Stadion. This landmark work in supporting retirement plan participants has brought Tim and Stadion national recognition, including being named Defined Contribution News Advice Provider of the Year, a cover article in Investment Advisor Magazine, featured interviews on CNBC, Fox News Business, and Bloomberg News, as well as being frequently quoted in publications such as Barron's and The Wall Street Journal.
Stadion launched their own mutual funds in September 2006 and last year, the Stadion Managed Portfolio - of which Chapman is a co-portfolio manager - was the 4th best performing equity mutual fund in Morningstar's data base of more than 10,000 funds.
Today Stadion manages more than $2 billion dollars in Stadion funds, separate accounts, and 401k accounts.
Tim is a noted speaker on financial planning and investment management topics at national industry conferences, and is a member of the National Speakers Association.
