Campus Overview & University Resources
Established in 1785, The University of Georgia is the oldest chartered state university in America. The University began offering graduate instruction in business administration in 1923, and is accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools in Business. The University's outstanding placement opportunities, its location in Athens, and its proximity to Atlanta are assets that provide the diversity required in a graduate business program. The primary emphasis on excellence in teaching, research, and service is made possible through a distinguished faculty, superior library holding, and advanced computer facilities, all of which ensure an exceptional graduate program. The world-class facilities, performing arts and nationally ranked sports teams provide students with plenty of ways to keep busy when taking a break from studying.

The University Libraries
With a collection of more than 3.5 million volumes, subscriptions to more than 42,000 journals and periodicals and as a regional depository for United States and Canadian government documents, the University of Georgia Libraries provide one of the largest academic resources for research and instruction in the Southeast. The library's map room incorporates an impressive map collection of some 600,000 items and ranks thirtieth in the world, twelfth in the nation and in the top 10 among academic institutions. In addition to the libraries located on campus, students have access to GALILEO, Georgia's web-based virtual library. Students can search over 100 databases that index thousands of periodicals and journals. Over 2000 books and millions of articles are available in full-text on the web. With hundreds of websites and business directories available online, the University libraries put the information students need at their fingertips.

Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Center enables the University to enjoy world-class fine arts programming. The 2001-2002 season brings famed guitarist Leo Keottke, The Boys Choir of Harlem and the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg to Athens. Patrons from all over Georgia gather for these spectacular performances. Yoel Levi, Music Director Emeritus for the Atlanta Symphony, hails the new center as "the best concert hall in Georgia, and one of the finest in the country."

University Athletics
When it comes to spectator sports, there can be no better place than Georgia. The University of Georgia has claimed 18 national championships with 9 of those occurring since 1999. In 2001, the University of Georgia claimed national championships in men's tennis, women's golf, and women's swimming and diving, as well as SEC titles in baseball, women's basketball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's golf. From the 1980 and 2002 NCAA collegiate football championships to the 2001 NCAA men's tennis championship, Georgia intercollegiate sports teams are some of the most competitive in the nation.

Outdoor Activities
The Oconee Forest, part of UGA's Recreational Sports Complex, extends along the west side of campus. The park offers playing fields, tennis courts, hiking trails and running courses, as well as a ropes course and softball fields. Lake Herrick is the centerpiece of the park and is bordered by a pavilion and white-sand beach where students barbecue, canoe, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Ramsey Center
Many students take advantage of the Ramsey Student Physical Activity Center, a 430,000 sq. ft. facility that houses 3 swimming pools, 3 multi-purpose rooms, 5 gymnasia, a climbing wall, 10 racquetball courts and a 1/8 mile track. The 10,000 sq.ft. strength and conditioning room provides over 200 workout stations, including strength-training and cardio-vascular machines. A variety of classes such as step aerobics, kickboxing, tae-kwon-do and swing dancing are also offered.

Intramural Sports
In addition to excellence in academics, the University offers students interested in sports a variety of activities in which to participate. The University has an 18-hole championship golf course available to students at a reduced fee. The intramural sports program includes football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, golf, bench press, cross-country, track, badminton, swimming, bowling, tennis, inner-tube water polo, putt-putt and canoe racing. The Georgia Outdoor Recreation Program participates in activities such as backpacking, caving, horseback riding, cycling and snow skiing.

Student Health Services
The University Health Center, accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, offers inpatient and outpatient care to registered students who have paid the student health fee. Health insurance is available to students and their dependents through the Health Center office.

The Mental Health and Physical Health Divisions of the University Health Center enable the University to meet the varied needs of college students. The Health Center also provides a preventive and emergency dental clinic which operates on a subscription basis. The Health Center is open 24 hours daily during regular academic sessions of the University, with a fee-for-service schedule in effect during breaks.

University Housing
The University provides dormitory facilities for graduate students who need housing. Residence halls, including graduate student dormitories, accommodate approximately 6,500 students. Housing for married students is available in University Village, an on-campus apartment complex. Also, the University Housing Office maintains a list of off-campus apartments, townhouses, and houses available for rent.

Transportation
The campus bus system provides a free campus shuttle bus service and chartered bus service for students, faculty and staff. The service is funded by a transportation fee paid by all students and by funds received from traffic fines.

The Athens Transit System is a department of the Athens-Clarke County government. The government and the University of Georgia have an arrangement that allows University students to ride any of the regularly scheduled ATS buses free of charge upon presentation of a UGA ID card. ATS buses run through campus and stop at all campus bus stops.
