All graduate students who have no prior teaching experience at the college level must enroll before they are allowed to begin their assigned teaching responsibility.

Link Handbook for Graduate TAs
The TA Handbook is provided for all graduate students with instructional responsibilities. It gives general information about teaching in the undergraduate classroom at the University of Georgia and a list of teaching resources.


Link ELAN 7768 and 7769
These courses are designed specifically for international graduate students whose native language is not English and who wish to work as graduate teaching assistants. Use this link to determine if you are required to complete these courses.


Link Classroom Conduct
Teaching Assistants are expected to adhere to all general rules outlined in the Handbook for Graduate Teaching Assistants (above) and the rules outlined in this link.

Online Orientation: Assistantship Responsibilities

New Employee Orientation for Graduate Students
All new graduate students who have graduate assistantship awards must complete the appropriate paperwork and document employment eligibility for employment by the University of Georgia. To meet these requirements, you must complete the online orientation for new employees. During the orientation, you will be able to print the required employment forms, policies, and information about applicable benefits. Please be sure to print the following forms:


  • I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (complete & turn in this form immediately)
  • Board of Regents Security Questionnaire & Loyalty Oath (must be notarized)
  • UGA Intellectual Property Agreement (must be witnessed)
  • Form W-4 Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate
  • Direct Deposit Request Form (required if your employment date is after 1/1/02)

Complete these forms as quickly as possible and return them to your department. You will need to see a departmental secretary to notarize your signature on two of the forms. REMEMBER...IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE PERSONNEL FORMS, YOU WILL NOT GET A PAYCHECK.

Use this link to complete the online orientation for new employees. During the orientation you will be asked if you are eligible for benefits, please choose the orientation for non-benefit eligible participants.
