I am writing to solicit nomination for the 2004-2005 Graduate School
Dissertation Completion Awards. This email outlines the process and
deadlines for these awards. Information on other awards/assistantships
has been sent under separate cover.
ANNOUNCING THE 2004-2005 GRADUATE SCHOOL DISSERTATION COMPLETION AWARDS
Dissertation Completion Award:
The Dissertation Completion Award is designed to assist doctoral
students who are writing their dissertation and expect to defend and
graduate no later than August 2005. This assistance is provided by
assuring that the student is free from other departmental
responsibilities so that he/she may concentrate on research and writing
to ensure timely degree completion. Recipients will be required to
register for 12 hours in each of fall and spring semesters and 9 hours
during the summer.
Eligibility:
*Doctoral students who are admitted to candidacy by the date of the
nomination deadline.
*Doctoral students who will complete and defend their dissertations in
time to qualify for December 2004, May 2005, or August 2005 graduation.
[The assumption here is that the student is already at the writing stage
at the time of the nomination.]
*Students who will not graduate by this deadline as a result of a capstone internship requirement are also eligible.
*Students must have their current advisory committee form, program of study, admission to candidacy form and application for graduation on
file with the Graduate School by the nomination deadline.
Students Not Eligible:
*Students who have already received three (3) years of Graduate
School support.
*Students with grades of Incomplete or no report in graduate
level courses at UGA.
Nomination Deadline:
A department may recommend up to 5 percent of their full-time, fall semester departmental enrollment. Student nominations must be delivered
to Room 517, Boyd GSRC by Noon on Friday, March 12, 2004.
Nomination Information:

presentations, awards, honors, and other achievements. Nominees will also be judged on the strength of their research, their academic
performance in course work at UGA, their ability to apply and communicate research findings, and contributions to the university
community. Each nomination should be submitted in the following manner:
I. Materials must be in a manila folder, with student's name, SSN, and department name typed and affixed on the tab of the folder.
II. The folder must contain the following information (in order):
