Other Questions:

Q: How do I log in to the computers in the lab?

A: Only students who are currently enrolled in business classes are able to use this lab. Use your UGA MyID (the first part of your campus e-mail address), and password. Please remember to double-click the Logoff icon on the desktop when you are finished with your workstation.

Q: How do I print a document?

A: You will need to have money in your Bulldog Buck$ account on your UGACard.  You can add money to your Bulldog Buck$ account 24 hours a day at www.bulldogbucks.uga.edu.

Once you are ready to print: click here if printing a PDF (Adobe) file. Otherwise, use the print command in whatever program you are using, and then go to either of the Release Stations.

Next, swipe your UGACard through the card reader (make sure the black stripe on the card is properly aligned).  Carefully select your jobs from the list. This is easily done by scanning the first column for the username that you logged in with and then making sure that the description in the next column is your job.  The cost of printing the items that you have selected will be displayed at the bottom of the screen, along with the number of pages that are selected and the balance that will remain on your card after printing.

Click the Print button to send your selections to the printer.  Please remove your completed print jobs from the printer as soon as they are done.

Q: How much does it cost to print?

A: The cost is just 5cents per page (25 cents per page for color), which only pays for a portion of our supplies.

Q: Where can I put more money on my UGACard?

A: The closest place to put money on your UGACard is online at www.bulldogbucks.uga.edu.  Click here for other locations of Value Adding Stations.

Q: Why is printing not free?

A: The Terry College of Business has instituted "Pay for Print" to recover a portion of the cost of providing printing to students, faculty, and staff in the Caldwell Hall Computer Labs. The cost of printing is 5 cents per page (25 cents per page for color), which only pays for a portion of our supplies.

The system uses the Bulldog Bucks system and your UGA ID Card that is issued to all incoming students, faculty, and staff. The versatility and ease of use of the UGACard is the driving force behind the decision to implement this method of "Pay for Print."

Q: How long will an item be available for printing once it has been sent to the Release Station?

A: Print jobs remain in the queue for 30 minutes.

Q: Is there a stapler, etc.?

A: The lab has a stapler, a hole puncher, a phone, a pencil sharpener, and a pair of scissors. These tools are on the far right end of the back wall.

Q: Can you print something for me on special paper (i.e., a resume)?

A: No.  Due to past problems, we do not offer this service. At Copy Services in the Main Library, however, you can get photocopies made on special paper. Numerous copy shops throughout Athens also provide this service.

Q: Where is the nearest copy machine?

A: There are coin/card-operated copiers throughout the Main Library.

Q: I printed a document, but it is not listed at the Release Station.

A: Click the Refresh List button. If your document still does not appear, then it is probably listed off of the screen.

Click on the down arrow next to the printing buttons (not the down arrow on the scroll bar), and your print job should appear.

Note: Documents are listed by username at the Release Station. If you used a workstation that was logged in already when you got to it (instead of logging in with your own username and password), then what you print will be listed under a different username than yours.

Q: Where is my printout? I have already paid for it using my UGACard.

A: In the Caldwell 108 lab, print jobs sent to the default printer will print on the HP Laserjet 9000 black and white printer next to it's corresponding release station.  Color print jobs can be released from either release station, and will print from the HP Laserjet 5500 printer labeled "COLOR PRINTER".

Q: How do I print multiple slides per page when printing a PowerPoint presentation from Internet Explorer?

A: Right-click on the area containing the slides. A pop-up menu will appear; click Print on the menu. A Print box will pop up. Select Handouts, and then set the number of slides per page to the desired setting. Note: Selecting File > Print from the menu at the top of the browser will probably not give you the results you desire in this situation.

Q: What happens to files I save on my workstation once I log out of the computer?

A: Files left on a lab workstation (except files saved to the N: Drive) are deleted automatically as soon as you logout.

Q: Where can I save files if I do not have a disk?

A:The University provides students web accessable file storage.  http://mydrive.uga.edu/

Q: The computer says that my floppy disk is not formatted, but I have saved files on it before. What does this mean, and what should I do?

A: Floppy disks can be used on all UGA campus lab computers, though it is strongly recommended that students do not use them as the sole means of saving their files since floppies frequently lose data and sometimes even become completely unusable. Moreover, no matter how well you treat your own disks, the floppy drives in the labs can become dirty due to the number of users that frequently use dirty or corrupted disks in the drives.

If you have errors on your disk, then please bring it to the Help Window of the lab. A lab assistant may be able to correct the problem with Norton Disk Doctor or retrieve your files (but this is not usually possible).

For future reference, some alternative ways to safely back-up your files include:

  1. E-mail the file to yourself as an attachment.
  2. http://mydrive.uga.edu/
  3. FTP the file to your Arches account. An FTP client is available in the Start Menu under Programs > Communications > WS_FTP95LE.
Other tips for using floppy disks include:
  1. Do not work from a disk. Save the file to the computer you are working on, make the necessary revisions, print, etc., and then save the work back to the floppy. Keep in mind that after logging out of the campus lab computers, all data saved to the machine will be lost.
  2. Do not transport the disk loosely in your book-bag, etc.
  3. Avoid unnecessary exposure to magnets (such as monitors).
  4. Always format the disk the first time you use it, even if it says it is pre-formatted.
  5. Do not allow the disk to get wet.

Q: Why do blank (or mostly blank) pages print when I print from Internet Explorer?

A: Most likely, you have unintentionally printed the wrong frame. If you are printing a PDF (Adobe) file, click here for help. Otherwise, do the following:

First, click in the frame (or area) that you want to print. In the example below, you would want to click somewhere in the area marked off by the red bracket. You would not want to click in the area containing the buttons.

Click in the Frame

Next, click File > Print on the menu at the top of the browser. In the window that pops up, click the Options tab, and select the choice Only the Selected Frame.

The Print Window

Finally, click the Print button. Your document should print correctly.

Q: Where is the Lost & Found for the lab?

A: The Lost & Found for both the Graduate (104) and Undergraduate (108) labs is at the Help Window of the Undergraduate Lab (108).

Q: Where would the Teaching Assistant (TA) for my class be holding office hours?

A: Beginning Fall semester 2004, teaching assistants for MIST 2090 hold office hours in the Caldwell 108 undergrad lab.  Other classes may hold office hours in Caldwell 305 and 306. If you are unsure of the location of your TA's lab hours, then you should check with your TA.

Q: I am having problems; can a lab assistant help me?

A: You can go to the Help Window of the lab if you have problems with the computers or with printing.    In the past, the lab was staffed with a lab assistant 100% of the time.   Due to significant cuts in our budget, this will no longer be the case.   Lab assistants are available to help you but cannot do your homework for you.

Q: Who may access the Graduate (Caldwell 104) Lab?

A: Only graduate level students (PhD, MBA, MAcc, MMR, etc.) at the Terry College of Business may use the Caldwell 104 Lab.

Q: What is the combination to the Graduate (Caldwell 104) Lab?

A: See your department's secretary to get the combination.

Q: Where can I go for help if I am in the Graduate (Caldwell 104) Lab?

A: Simply go to the Help Window inside the Undergraduate (Caldwell 108) Lab.  If someone is available they will help be glad to help you.  If no one is there call the Terry College Helpdesk at 542-6799.
